Kettle Cove Creamery & Cafe

On our way out of The Lobster Shack and on our way home, H saw this little place. There were people drinking and eating ice cream so we drove in.

 

 

I took this pic from the car. It's a bad angle of the place but on one side of the house, they serve drinks and smoothies. The other side serves ice cream ;)

Got me some Coffee and Oreo ice cream on a regular cone (they have sugar cones if you like). This was pretty good. It wasn't overly sweet and the Oreo was a good addition. I could eat some right now...

H got a vanilla shake (he didn't feel like going to the other side to get his smoothie). This was pretty sweet. Didn't really like it.

I'm glad we came across this place. I now know where to go when I'm craving some sweets when I'm in ME.

The Lobster Shack Restaurant at Two Lights

Ah, the one place I was really looking forward to...It wasn't the food that got my attention but the view!

This place is gorgeous. After we ate our meal, H and I just relaxed on the rocks for a hour. We had our beach chairs so we were comfy ;) I read my book while he "napped". We would have stayed longer but it was freakin cold. I had jeans and my sweater and I was still cold. I think it felt like it was in the 60s. Definitely gonna bring a thicker sweater the next time I go here.

Now, the food...

Outdoor Seating

The line was pretty long. I think I might have waited 20 mins? Not sure. We also had to wait another 10 mins or so for the food. While waiting, I got my Ketchup and tartar sauce ready.

Reg. Fried Shrimp - $10.99

This was really good. The shrimp was fresh and the batter was good. It also wasn't over fried which was good I think.

Clam Cake - $1.89

This was not good. It was too crunchy and when you ate it, you mostly tasted the batter. You barely tasted any of the clam. It also had a weird taste to it too. We only took a couple of bites of this.

Clamburger Boat - $5.79

This clamburger was pretty good. H liked it as well. It kinda tasted like fish fillet. So if you like that, you should like this. The fries were your typical fries. Nothing great.

This coleslaw came with the food. I'm not a fan of coleslaw so I didn't eat this. I just ate the pickle ;)

Bowl of Lobster Stew - $13.39

H ordered this. It was okay. He said the lobster were like the crappy lobster pieces. The soup was very watery so I think he just ate the lobster. So this was definitely not worth the $13.39.

Cup of Clam Chowder - $2.99

Remember how I said that I never tasted bad clam chowder? Well, I got to experience that the next day. Man, this was bad. The soup was really watery and just didn't taste good. I took one sip and I just gave it to H. This ended up being my last clam chowder from Maine...blah. I'm gonna try to erase that thought the next time I go to Boston or Maine.

So I think this place should definitely be on the list if you plan on going to maine. The view says enough.

Red's Eats - Day 2

The original plan was to go to Gilbert’s Chowder House for dinner but they close at 10pm and at 8, we both were still stuffed from our previous meal. Since Red's Eats was only 15 mins from our hotel (and they close at 11), we decided to head there again.

I got the lobster roll again and fries. H on the other hand, missed meat so he got some ham and cheese sandwich (they called it Yumbo).The yumbo was pretty good. It was warm, the cheese was melted and it was on a butter bun.

So my lobster roll...wow, it was so much better tonight! Not because the food quality was better but because I adjusted my eating style. Yesterday, I was kinda overwhelmed with the amount of lobster on the roll. Today, I took off two of the tail pieces and gave it to H. After I did that, the roll was perfect for me. Since I think the butter roll is as yummy as the lobster, I was able to get a good mix of both on every bite. Plus, I tasted the warm butter tonight and it was great.

I now appreciate this place.

Cappy's Chowder House

After walking almost a mile to a lighthouse, I was ready for my lunch. Here's where we went.

Cappy's Root Beer - $2.49

Cappy's Famous Clam Chowder - Large Mug - $8.99

This tasted pretty good. But again, I'm not an experienced chowda eater so I don't have much to compare to. Hang was surprised that I actually liked this one because he said it tasted kinda "clamy". He liked it though. Oh, that biscuit on the side was pretty good. It was warm and it went well with the chowder.

Here is H's soup/chowda. He liked this also. I don't remember how it tasted since I only had one spoonful. The coloring of it looks good though right?

Maine Shrimp Quesadilla - $10.99

This was pretty good. I've never had shrimp quesadilla so this was different. It was good but nothing special really. I was only able to eat one slice. It really filled me up.

The Best Calamari - $9.99

H said this was really fresh. I thought it was good too. It wasn't chewy like some of the calamari out there. That sauce was different too. Not your typical marinara sauce. It was more like spicy honey mustard. Not bad.

Curly Fries - $2.99

I've been craving fries since that day of the festival so I got these. It was just your typical curly fries. It was pretty crispy and I usually like my curly fries soft so it wasn't the best I've had ;)

We couldn't finish our food so H took the quesadilla home. Look at what they put our leftovers in! I've never had an aluminum foil swan before. It was a nice surprise ;)

Red's Eats

On our way to the lobster festival, we passed by this place on the road. I noticed a decent line but didn't think much of it. On our way back to the hotel, I noticed that this time, the line was much longer. Intrigued, I made a mental note to look it up online when I got back to the hotel.

Turns out to be a pretty popular/famous place. What is it famous for? Lobster rolls! Reading that the wait can be up to an hour, I decided to head there after the dinner rush (9:30ish). It was a good move because when we got there, there was no line at all.

~$37 for 2 lobster rolls, small fries and a large coke.

Their lobster rolls are made a bit differently. The main difference is that they do not pre-mix the mayo with the lobster. They just give you plain lobster on a butter toasted New England roll. You can get warm butter and mayo on the side. This is great for me because I never liked the intense amount of mayo a typical lobster roll has. It's also great because if you like plain lobster, you can get it here and not have to deal with cracking the shell and stuff.

So the first thing I noticed when I took a bite was that the lobster was cold. I'm guessing that's how lobster rolls are? Again, I'm not an experience lobster roll eater. I think I've probably ate 3 my whole life.

Besides the cold part, the lobster roll was pretty good. I think the best part though, is the roll. It's soft, buttery and warm. Oh yea, they give you a very good amount of lobster. I think each roll has more than 1 lobster in it.

Maine Lobster Festival Aug 2010

Ah, so the "big" lobster fest.

It was a cloudy and foggy day. It was drizzling when we left our hotel but we got lucky and it stopped once we got to the festival. I think we got there around 11ish.

So this is where they cook the lobster. I didn't get a very good picture of it. Should have taken a view of the front.

We got really lucky and there were no lines at all when we got here. Once we were done eating though, a pretty long line formed. I'm guessing the rain made people stay in their hotels a bit longer.

Lobsters...

We got 3 lobsters.

 

 

I do have a couple of pics of an opened lobster but it's very unflattering so I won't put them on ;)

 

Anyway, H said it was really good and very fresh. He basically ate all three. I just ate a half of a tail. I dunno why but I just didn't really care for it.  I don't eat a lot of lobsters so I really didn't know what to expect. To me, it tasted alright. I was expecting or at least I imagined the tail/meat being a bit soft. It wasn't that soft. Maybe I'm just a crab person? 

Anyway, there's like several tents that sell different things. We got some seafood chowder from this place.

I liked this but I don't have much experience with chowders. This is my second time having chowder and it tasted good to me! H said it was good but just your typical chowder.

H likes root beer so I took a sip. Not bad at all. Much better than that damn Dr. Pepper he likes so much.

So we spent about two hours at this place. After you eat the lobsters, there really is not much else to do. I could have gotten some of the other food (fried shrimp, fries, onion rings, etc) but I was kinda full and the portions would have been too much. There's some rides but not enough to get you excited. Maybe I'm just not into them anymore?

So in the end, I would come back here but wouldn't care to go out of my way to. At least now I know that I only need to spend a few hours here. It would be nice to go with a group of people so you can somewhat share the food.

So off to the next place!
